Katy Lewis

Chair of Governors

I was first elected parent governor in 2020 and have acted as Chair of Governors since September 2021. I have two sons who both attended New Oscott Primary School from nursery but who have both now moved on.

In my professional role, I have worked in higher education for almost 20 years, previously at Aston University and now as Head of Marketing and Communications for the University of Birmingham. I have also served as a Trustee of our local Scouting group and an active member of their Executive Committee.

Due to our location when we first applied, New Oscott was actually our second choice primary but I believe everything happens for a reason – New Oscott has been wonderful for both our boys and I am so glad that decision was made for us. It is a fantastic school with some amazingly dedicated staff who work so hard to provide the best for the children.

I am passionate about education and the possibilities it opens up for young people. I’m delighted to bring what experience I have to the New Oscott Governing Board and contribute to ensuring high standards of achievement for all children in the school. I am looking forward to being a part of ensuring the school continues to be the very best it can be now and into the future.

Katy Budden

I joined the Governing Body in 2019 when I was appointed as Deputy Head Teacher at New Oscott. In my previous employment, I worked at three other Birmingham schools holding a variety of curriculum leadership and senior leadership roles. This is my second role as a governor and I bring my experience of school leadership, safeguarding, curriculum development and assessment to the board.

I am looking forward to working hard with the team to offer all our pupils the best possible start to their learning and school experience, building firm foundations from which children can go on to achieve their aspirations and dreams.

Sarah Fullwood

Pupil Premium Governor

I joined Now Oscott governing body in 2022 to help make a difference. Having worked in the higher education sector since graduating in 2012, I have a vast amount of knowledge, experience and understanding of working with schools to help aspire pupils to achieve their potential and look forward to supporting the school and students achieve success. As a keen advocate for social mobility, I hope to use my education and experiences in social mobility and safeguarding to support the school in their strategic development plans and look forward to developing my passion for supporting learners as a school governor.

In my spare time, I love dancing, cooking and adventure and can often be found at the weekends with my walking boots on exploring nature. I look forward to working with you all.

Vicki Taylor

Health and Safety Governor

I joined the governing body as a co-opted governor in 2022 and have a daughter who attends New Oscott Primary School.

I am a Chartered Surveyor and hold a management position within the NHS in a strategic estates capacity. Prior to this I worked for a private sector property consultancy where I developed a broad range of knowledge and experience of general practice surveying. I’m keen to use these skills to make a positive contribution to the governing body in supporting New Oscott to deliver the highest standards of achievement for all children within our school community.

I am delighted to be part of such a caring, inclusive school with talented and dedicated staff where all children are encouraged to reach their full potential.

Charlotte Wetton

Safeguarding and Safer Recruitment link Governor

I joined New Oscott governing body in 2020 looking to make a difference in my community. Living locally and attending the local secondary school as a child, I was keen to give something back. I am proud to be part of the New Oscott governing body who share a passion and drive to provide the pupils with an excellent and well-rounded curriculum. I am the Safeguarding and Safer Recruitment link governor.

I am a deputy head of a Staffordshire primary school with 10 years of teaching experience across all key stages of learning. I have previously also worked for Sandwell local authority. I hope to use my education, curriculum and safeguarding background to support the school in their strategic school development plans. One of the reasons I love my job and why I wanted to become a governor, was to make a difference in young people’s lives and help them aim high with their aspirations.

In my spare time, I love kayaking and hiking with my two mischievous dogs. Being out in nature and travelling to explore new places certainly keeps me busy in the school holidays.

I look forward to working with the New Oscott community!

Monique Watkeys

SEN Governor

I decided to become a governor to further enhance my knowledge and skills within education, particularly primary education. I am currently an Assistant SENCO at a local secondary school and am studying BA(Hons) Special Educational Needs, Disability and Inclusion. I am very passionate about this area, due to the fact I, myself am autistic and have ADHD. I am determined to ensure young people gain the support they need as individuals to reach their full potential.

My previous role was as a Behaviour Support Manager in a generic SEN secondary school and doing outreach work and training across the Staffordshire region. In my current role I have more focus around the curriculum and I am teaching from September, which will really broaden my experience within the curriculum, helping me maximise my knowledge, which I hope to continue to build upon and bring to New Oscott.

I enjoy music and theatre and take part in regular shows with 2 local theatre companies. I currently lead a marching band in the local area for members as young as 8.

I am an active member of the scouting movement and am heading into my 14th year of adult service. I have previous experience as a director on a board for a company and am a current trustee of a local theatre company too.

Kim Silvester

I am a parent governor and have two children aged 7 and 4, both of whom attend New Oscott Primary School. I volunteer as a parent governor because I am passionate about our children having the best start to life and hope to be able to directly influence and support the school in providing the very best education and life skills for all its pupils.

I am a qualified Accountant and have been working within the NHS for over 10 years. I hope to be able to use my skills and experience from working within the public sector to be an active member of the governing body. I am looking forward to the challenge of working with the Governors and the teaching staff to continue to develop and improve New Oscott School over the coming years to make it the best school that it can be for our children.

Staff Governor

I joined the governing body in 2020 in the capacity as staff governor. I thoroughly enjoy working at New Oscott, having worked here since moving to the West Midlands, and feel that the role of staff governor gives me further opportunities to make a difference within our community. This is my first role as a governor, however I am proud to be a member of a governing body that is driven to achieve the highest standards for the children, staff and parents of New Oscott. I am the well-being link governor and work closely with the well-being lead at New Oscott.
